Research published by Joe Zorek, assistant professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division, and colleagues, entitled “A comparison of the validity of two instruments assessing health professional student perceptions of interprofessional education and practice,” was recognized in January 2017 with runner up honors in the annual Baldwin Award competition. The Baldwin Award, named in honor of DeWitt ‘Bud’ Baldwin Jr.’s lifelong and distinguished contribution to interprofessional care, recognizes the best papers published in the Journal of Interprofessional Care. The Journal disseminates evidence, policy and theory informing collaboration in education, practice and research. Fields covered include primary, community and hospital care, as well as health education and public health.
A panel of judges recruited from the Journal’s editorial board assessed all of the original articles published in 2015 (Volume 29) and selected winners based upon the following criteria for quality:
- How it adds significantly to the evidence base informing interprofessional education/practice worldwide
- Its potential to have a significant impact on theory informing interprofessional education/practice
- Its potential to have a significant impact on research design in interprofessional education/practice
- Its clarity and cogency (i.e., written well, clearly argued)
- How it shows innovation in the field of interprofessional education/practice.
Zorek’s primary research interests center on interprofessional practice and education (IPE), with secondary foci on health outcomes from practice-based innovations and curriculum assessment. He is the School of Pharmacy’s interprofessional education liaison, co-chair of the School’s IPE task force, and a founding member of the UW-Madison Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Zorek currently practices as a care transitions pharmacist at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and serves as the School’s liaison to the St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy, both located in Madison, Wis.
