Vivian receives ICTR pilot grant for diabetes research

Eva Vivian, associate professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division, was awarded a $40,000 pilot grant from the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) for her proposal, “Utilizing Novel Interventions to Prevent Diabetes in Youth (UNITY).”

The type 2 translational research project is designed to determine if a community-based, family-centered diabetes prevention program with a peer component might increase the success rate of identifying teens with or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and identify problems children and families may face when trying to lead a healthy lifestyle. Collaborators on the project include Patricia Kokotailo, School of Medicine and Public Health, Kenneth Loving, Access Community Health Center, Madison, Wisconsin; Naomi Wedel, Dean West Clinic, Madison, Wisconsin and Pamela Myhre, UW-Madison School of Nursing.
