Lee Vermeulen, clinical professor in the Pharmacy Practice Division, and Director of the Center for Clinical Knowledge Management (CCKM), UW Health, was recently honored as the 2016 ASHP Donald E. Francke Medal recipient by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Presented 20 times since 1971, the Donald E. Francke Medal honors pharmacists who have made significant international contributions to advance pharmacy practice. Vermeulen will be presented with his award this December at the ASHP 51st Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vermeulen is the 13th American, and the fourth graduate from UW-Madison, to receive the award.
Vermeulen leads a large team of CCKM analysts charged with evaluating and organizing biomedical evidence to drive clinical decisions that promote efficiency, consistency, and quality throughout UW Health. CCKM is also responsible for medical technology assessment and coordinates vendor relations for UW Health.
Vermeulen conducts health services research with a focus on studies that measure the value of clinical practice tools that improve patient outcomes, technology development and diffusion, and the efficient application of health care technology. He has a significant interest in global health and is active in the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), having served several terms of office for the FIP Hospital Pharmacy Section. He is currently Secretary of the Hospital Pharmacy Section and a member of the FIP Board of Pharmaceutical Practitioners. He has been awarded Fellowship in the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and FIP.
