Every fall, the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Pharmacy hosts two career development days to position our student pharmacists for success beyond graduation, which culminate in a Career Fair that brings in employers and pharmacists from around the Midwest to share opportunities and information with PharmD students, hold interviews, and get to know our future pharmacists.
Before that main event, PharmD students attend a series of discussions and workshops led by pharmacists and alumni to learn more about internships, post-graduate opportunities, traditional and nontraditional pharmacy careers, and how to write a curriculum vitae. This year, alumni including Maria Wopat (PharmD ’10), Ryan Simonet (PharmD ’19), Justin Konkol (PharmD ’06), Jenna Gresens (BS ’98), Kerry Goldrosen (BS ’93, PharmD ’95), Katie Scarpace (PharmD ’13), and Sarah Pagenkopf (PharmD ’07) led our students in these sessions, and even more turned out for our networking roundtable event that gives students a chance to connect with practitioners and hear about others’ experiences and career options in the field. This alumni engagement is an unbeatable aspect of the Badger pharmacy experience.
