Glen Kwon, professor, in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division, has received The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Outstanding Manuscript Award for outstanding achievement in pharmaceutical technologies as demonstrated by authorship of a manuscript published in the AAPS PharmSciTech journal. Kwon and three colleagues authored the paper. The winning paper, Polymeric Micelles for Multi-Drug Delivery in Cancer, focuses on development of advanced drug delivery systems for multi-drug delivery, gaining insight into theranostic strategy of treating advanced ovarian cancer, and emphasizing clinical benefits of the advanced drug delivery systems in surgical gynecology. Ovarian cancer accounts for 5% of cancer deaths, causing more death than any other gynecological cancers. Among women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, more than 60% of them are at an advanced stage with 27% of the 5-year survival rate. The award winning manuscripts were selected from three research journals: The AAPS Journal, AAPS PharmSciTech, and Pharmaceutical Research. Recipients were honored in mid-November at the AAPS annual meeting in Denver, Colo. The AAPS is a professional, scientific organization of approximately 9,000 members employed in academia, industry, government, and other research institutes worldwide. Founded in 1986, AAPS advances the capacity of pharmaceutical scientists to develop products and therapies that improve global health.
