Gururaj Joshi, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Jeff Johnson, professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division, was awarded an Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) pilot project grant from the University of Wisconsin ADRC.
The grant will investigate how the lack of the transcription factor Nrf2 as well as the cell-specific over expression of Nrf2 in astrocytes modulates the development of Alzheimer’s disease-like pathology a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease. The hope is to gain a greater understanding of the disease process and discover novel therapeutic targets for treating Alzheimer’s disease that will stop or at least slow disease progression. The ADRC pilot programs major objective is to enhance novel Alzheimer’s Disease-related research throughout the UW-Madison campus, and generate pilot data for larger peer-reviewed grants. Three pilot grants were awarded by ADRC in this, its inaugural year.
