Grant to further study of medication management

The research of Joshua M. Thorpe, assistant professor in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division, was awarded a $100,000 R03 grant from the National Institute on Aging for a two-year project, “Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use in Persons with Dementia and Their Informal Caregivers.”

The project will document the epidemiology of inappropriate medication use in caregivers and dementia patients, identify risk factors, and assess the impact of suboptimal medication use on patient/caregiver health outcomes. Results from this work will inform future medication management interventions aimed at increasing appropriate medication use in both caregivers and their dependent care recipients. The National Institute on Aging is part of the National Institutes of Health, the Federal Government’s primary agency for biomedical and behavioral research.
