Ed Elder, Director of the Zeeh Pharmaceutical Experiment Station, and Jim DeMuth, Professor (retired) Division of Pharmacy Practice Division, will both serve on USP committees for the 2015-2020 cycle.
DeMuth was re-elected at the USP Convention to the USP Council of Experts (CoE) as chair of the Dosage Forms Expert Committee (EC). This is his fourth (4th) cycle as a member of the CoE. He previously served as chair of the Dosage Forms EC (2010-2015), General Chapters EC (2005-2010), and Biostatistics EC (2000-2005).
Elder was re-appointed for a second term as a member of the USP Compounding Expert Committee, He also served on this committee for the 2010-2015 cycle. The Compounding Expert Committee is focused on human drug compounding, veterinary drug compounding, and compounding flavorings including responsibility for:
- Developing new and revising existing human and veterinary compounded preparation monographs
- Developing and approving additional content for the USP Pharmacists’ Pharmacopeia
The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) is a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed and consumed worldwide. USP’s drug standards are enforceable in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration, and these standards are used in more than 140 countries.
USP relies on the scientific expertise and collaboration of more than 1,000 volunteer experts worldwide to develop and revise its standards. These volunteers represent medicine, research science, the pharmaceutical and food ingredients industries, academia, consumer organizations, and the U.S. government.
