On Legislative Day, pharmacy students and leaders from around the state of Wisconsin descend onto the state capital to learn about current issues in the field of pharmacy and to hear from legislators about the issues facing pharmacists that affect health care for Wisconsinites.

Organized by the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW), the February 8, 2018, event started at the Monona Terrace with talks by PSW President Nick Olson (PharmD ’03) and Pharmacy Examining Board Secretary Rocky LaDien (BS ’77), among other prominent pharmacy figures in the state. PSW also honored pharmacists and students who have been heavily involved in grassroots advocacy and policy changes: Pharmacist Janet Fritsch was given the 2018 Good Government Award , and third-year PharmD student from the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy, Eric Friestrom, took home a Student Good Government Award.

After the reception at the Monona Terrace, the group marched to the Wisconsin State Capitol building to tour the assembly and senate offices and meet with policymakers.

Motivated to make a difference, an enormous group of our PharmD students attended this year’s Legislative Day.
