Theory-based Approaches: Using sociobehavioral and health psychology principles, we study the perceptions of illness and medicines among underserved populations and explore how to interweave patient perspectives into the development of tailored patient-centered medication use interventions.
Currently, projects in our research group focus on (1) exploring patient perceptions of chronic diseases using self-regulatory theories; (2) using psychometric methods to develop patient-centered culturally appropriate tools to measure illness perceptions; (3) understanding how psychosocial factors influences medication adherence among the underserved; and (4) designing and implementing medication adherence interventions for the underserved, as well as health literacy-psychosocial support interventions.
In collaborative areas of interests, this research group is exploring the utilization of pharmacy quality measures by patients.
